In today’s world, tech is everything. We use it on a daily basis to help us in so many ways, whether it’s listening to music on a Google Home device, putting on cruise control when driving for every household needs, playing a games console or watching TV on a VR headset – which is very cool if you haven’t tried it yet. Technology is often taken for granted, with us not even realising we are using it, such as when we wear our smartwatches or make business calls and use our laptops’ or tablets’ cameras
Now we have you thinking about tech, one area of our lives where it’s very beneficial is in our homes. Whether you live in a rented apartment or own your home, there is so much tech that you can use to make living in your property more enjoyable and easier. If you have a garden, a robot mower is going to make your life easier and save you time. Having smart lighting will mean you can turn them on and off without having to get up, and a robot hoover will mean you don’t need to hoover your flooring anymore.
To help give you some inspiration, we have put together a guide on tech that every household needs. Some items you may already own, whilst others you may not; either way, we hope we can give you some inspiration on new pieces of tech that can make a difference to your day-to-day life.
Robot Mower
If your property has a garden, front or back, a robot mower is going to save you a lot of time and energy. Having a robot mower will change your life (and we aren’t exaggerating). When you have one, you can program it to cut your lawn whenever required and can control it with an app on your phone. They are weather-adaptive with an auto-schedule and have obstacle avoidance, meaning they won’t crash into anything that they shouldn’t.
Smart Lighting
We are big fans of smart lighting as it can completely change the dynamic of your home. When you have smart lighting installed, you can control your lights via your voice or an app on your phone – this is perfect, as if you forget to turn the lights on or off, you don’t have to get up and use a light switch. The bulbs are multicoloured, meaning you can set them to any colour you fancy that day, whether red, blue or green, and they are more energy efficient than normal lights, saving you money at the same time.
Google Home or Alexa
Everybody needs a Google Home or an Alexa device in their household. Once you have one and start using it daily, you’ll never want to stop using it. You’ll use it to help set timers for your cooking, you’ll use it to turn the lights on and off, you’ll use it to listen to music, and you’ll use it to call your friends and family members. If you are not sure on which one to opt for, they are both fairly similar but have their own USP’s – the best thing to do is do your research and see which one matches your requirements better.
Robot Hoover
We mentioned the robot mower above, which will help you with your garden. For the inside of your property, you can get a robot hoover – you’ll love this just as much as you love your robot mower. They are fairly similar in many ways, as your robot hoover will hoover all the rooms in your home without you having to do anything. A robot hoover has obstacle avoidance so it doesn’t hoover something it shouldn’t, and it can be controlled via an app on your tablet or mobile phone.
Smart Security Devices
Keeping your family and property safe is a top priority. There are various devices that you can purchase, which will help keep your property safe as well as your family, and are considered smart tech. For example, you can buy smart doorbells, security cameras, and motion sensors which offer real-time monitoring and alerts straight to your phone. All recordings are also saved to your phone, meaning you can video any suspicious activity and send it to the police should you need to – we hope you don’t, but you can never be too sure!
Smart Thermostats
Something which we think should be high on your tech list is a smart thermostat. They are simply great, especially in the winter months, as you’ll never have to come home to a cold house again. When you have a smart thermostat installed (which is fairly easy to do), you can control your heating with your phone. Being a smart thermostat, it will learn your routine and adjust your heating schedule, saving you money at the same time.
Smart Plugs
Smart plugs can turn a device that isn’t smart into a smart device. Smart plugs are useful as you can turn the plug on and off with your voice or your phone. This means you can turn your lamp on with your smart plug, or a phone charger and then ensure it’s off when you are done. Over Christmas, smart plugs are particularly useful as you can control your Christmas decorations with them.
When you get the right pieces of tech in your home, it’s going to make your life better, safer and smart tech is certainly more convenient. With any of the pieces of tech we have mentioned above, they will help you run your home more smoothly and give you more time to do the things you enjoy. Whether you’re into smart living or just looking for simple upgrades, there’s something here for every household
